Coach's legend began as a small, family-owned company specializing in small leather goods such as wallets and handbags in the early 1940's. Originating in Manhattan, New York, it spread across the continent and soon made its way across seas where it made a name for itself. Coach became so popular in the women's handbags business when they began making the handbags out of sturdy cowhide instead of the fllimsy thin layer of leather over carboard that other company's were using.
